Our Difference
Workers Beer Company is owned by Battersea and Wandsworth Trade Union Council (BWTUC) Trading.
All Workers Beer Company servers are volunteers and their wages are donated to the organisations they support. Since the beginning, we have donated over £5 million to social causes.
The social dividend does not end with the 'wages' donated to good causes. The Workers Beer Company invests in its volunteer workforce. We help them to develop skills useful not only for the Workers Beer Company, but also in the volunteers’ wider working life.
We do not have to deliver financial dividends to private shareholders. This gives us the freedom to invest in new ideas and technology to improve our service. For example the development of multi-pour dispense systems in the early 90's or pioneering sustainability and cup recycling in 2007/8.
The volunteer staff model also enhances our operations. Volunteer staffs are highly motivated and skilled. We have a huge pool of experienced serving staff and managers. Many of the managers are also personal license holders.
We offer an appealing mix of experience, skills and service. This combined with the feel good factor that comes from knowing that any profit from that bar is being reinvested back into our community.
