Ireland has some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the EU. A woman may not even procure an abortion in Ireland if she is pregnant due to rape. In 2014, on average, 10 women travelled from Ireland to Britain every day for an abortion.
The Abortion Rights Campaign aims to promote broad national support for a referendum by the Irish Parliament, to push for the introduction of abortion legislation by the Northern Ireland Assembly and to ensure the health and rights of women in pregnancy are protected in line with international human rights. Funds raised with WBC are vital to help with all aspects of our work from campaigning and supporting protests to research, education, running conferences and coordinating with international bodies.
